It is not often that you get two ruffing finesses on one Hand but this hand demonstrates that a ruffing finesse is sometimes better than a straight single  finesse.

West is marked with all the Hearts from his opening bid with no outside values. Therefore both black Kings must be with East.

Initially you have a count of 6 Diamonds, and two further aces totalling 8. As long as you ruff Hearts three times in dummy, the short hand this will bring the total to 11. Initially the losers count is 2 – 1 spade and 1 Heart. Can we do anything about the Spade loser? Yes we can with a ruffing finesse against East.

So after winning the Spade Ace draw trumps in one round. Now play club to the Ace and run the Queen from dummy. If West kings you, you trump and return to dummy and chuck the spade loser on the established Club Jack. If he doesn’t play the King then chuck the Spade loser now.

Now that you have dealt with the club suit you deal with the Heart suit in a like manner>you play the Ace losing to the Ace and when West plasy a Spade you trump it and now play your Heart  Jack. West will probably Queen it and now your 10 has been established.

You eventually make 6 trumps (from the long hand) 1 Spade, 2 Clubs, 1 Heart  and to Heart ruffs in dummy bringing your grand total to 12.

(NB Had West in the unlikely event led a Heart the defence can take the first two tricks as East can over-ruff dummy at trick 1- it appears that East is doubling for the Heart lead. But West seems to have forgotten system).
