When this hand was played against me West got off to the best lead and continued in a like manner. He had obviously read all the books saying that if you have declarer's other suit then lead a trump.
With this in mind, he led a Spade and when he got in, led another spade and had now reduced dummy's trumps to just one. I was able to ruff one diamond in dummy but now had to lose a second Diamond as well as the Ace of Clubs.
With a club lead I would be able to trump Diamonds in dummy, the short hand, twice and bring home 11 tricks. The only thing I now have to show for it, is the correct defence by my learned opponent on my left for this column.
