1. Roman Key Card Blackwood 2. 2 Key cards
Lead ♣Queen
Once partner opened, South needs as much bidding space as possible so despite having 19 points he made the correct reply of just 1♠ and once partner replied 2♠ he knew the hands was going to a small slam in Spades as long as partner had at least 1 key card so immediately initiated Blackwood. Although he had two, South remembered his original minimum rebid of 2♠ and settled for the small slam.
An initial count gave him 4 Spade winners. 2 Red Aces and 2 Clubs so he needed to generate 4 more tricks.
With this in mind he decided to trump two clubs and set up the Diamonds. So without much ado he ruffed the club lead in dummy (the Ace King could be played later). He now went straight to work and played a low Diamond from dummy towards his AQ. East played the King and got off lead with a trump. All the work was done and after winning this in dummy he drew a round of trumps to get back to his hand in order to ruff a second Club.
He now played a top Heart, hoping that the person with the last trump didn't have a void which was completely unlikely. He then trumped a Heart back to his hand (safest way back before drawing the last tump.
He could now claim with all winning Minor suit cards.
He made 4 Spades from this own hand, 2 Clubs, 2 club ruffs 1 Heart and 3 Diamonds for a nicely well thought out hand.
