you play too quickly at trick two you will fail and there will be no second
chances. Initially you have 8 winners, 3 Spades, 2 Hearts, 2 Diamonds and 1
Club. On the loser front you have 2 possible clubs, 1 possible diamond and 1
Spade if the spades break 40.
You
also have no entries to dummy in order to pitch any of the losers.
Therefore
to guarantee your contract you have
to lead the Spade 8 at trick two to cater for a 40 Spade break. If East takes
the Jack you now have the 7 as entry for a Diamond pitch on one of dummy’s top
Hearts. If he ducks, you will not have a Spade loser and you can just claim 10
from seven spades and Ace King Ace, since you never get to dummy.
