How
can you try and make 12 tricks after the ª10 lead for
an above average MP’s score ?
You are in this contract and somewhat disappointed not to have bid 3NT which is generally easier to make. Here however if you are in 3NT it seems that you can only make 9 tricks via 1 Spade, 2 Hearts 4 Diamonds and 3 clubs losing 3 Spades and the Diamond Ace.
However at trick one you realize that you can in fact sneak a twelfth trick if the opponents play as you expect them to. If you play low from dummy at trick one East is likely to play low too retaining any tenace he might have over dummy. You will then be able to win the first trick with your Spade king. Before embarking on the trump suit you will then need to play three rounds of Clubs ditching the Spade Queen on the third round (Now your spade loser has evaporated).
Now that
the Spade suit has been sorted you can start to draw trumps. With the favourable
lie of the trump suit you can now claim 12 tricks winning 1 Spade, 2 Hearts,
3 Clubs. and six tricks from the trump suit itself - 1 naturally and the
rest from cross ruffing.
