The essence of good defence is PATIENCE and trying not to give away a trick to let declarer just get home.

Whatever you lead here looks like you will give away a trick. The best of a bad situation is to lead a club.

Declarer wins the first trick in hand with the Ace and now plays two rounds of trumps followed by two rounds of Spades, followed by a Heart ruff in dummy. Declarer now takes a losing diamond finesse which you win with your Ace. Now draw a round of trumps before exiting with a Diamond or a club. Having decided on a Diamond declarer wins and has to play a losing Spade which your partner is able to win. Had you exited with a second club then declarer would still lose a Spade at the 11th hour.

You patient defence realised 1 Trump, 2 Diamonds and 1 Spade for your partner for a well defended hand.
