When my esteemed part, Peter NIcholls, played this hand he performed a Loser on Loser play. On the third round of spades, instead of ruffing and getting overuffed, He threw away a losing Heart from hand instead of ruffing. West didn't need to ruff now. Fortunately, East now switched to a Heart and he was able to wrap up the remaining tricks after the Diamond Queen fell in two rounds.
He made 7 Diamond tricks, 2 clubs and 1 Heart.
Why do I say it was fortunate that East didn't play a fourth Diamond? If he had there would have been a trump promotion for the defence but East saw the Heart discard and decided the defence needed tricks from that suit .
