Partner leads ªQ and you cover dummy’s King plan your play.

At trick 2 you have to try and make life easy for partner. If declarer has the Heart King then declarer is always making a Heart trick, but if partner has it, then you must make your intentions known early before automatically returning a Spade at trick two. Since you have A10 sitting over dummy’s Jack you can safely switch to the Heart Queen at trick two. Now partner knows your suit once he has finished cashing his Spades, and there is no chance of any misunderstanding. After you switch to the Heart queen you get a pleasant surprise when it wins. Now switch back to Spades. He cashes his Spade and then his Heart King before leading A Heart through dummy’s Jack into your A10.The defence has taken the first 8 tricks with 4 from Spades and 4 from Hearts for an excellent Match Point Score.
