Harold Schogger has a tip which comes too late for the Bols Competition; "if you have led the wrong suit, don't panic and later switch to another suit which may cause more damage" He cites this.

Playing weak No Trump South opened 1§, North responded 1¨ and South's 1NT rebid ended the auction.
West led a heart, won by the Jack, and declarer played Ace and another. West won and promptly switched to a low diamond. East put up the Queen. Declarer risked a diamond finesse and ran his red suit winners, reducing everyone to four cards.
It did not matter what East kept in the ending (South had three Spades and a Club). When a spade was led, if East ducked he would be endplayed , if he won, South would make two Spade tricks. Declarer had 10 tricks and a top.
IBPA editor : Although a spade looks best, the heart lead did little harm. And the Diamond switch would have been alright provided West had led the Jack, or East had withheld the queen,
