We've Got, We've Got –let's Have a conversation and enjoy ourselves
"Parlez Vous bridge, Hablas Bridge, Spechenzi Bridge?"
By Harold Schogger
Introduction
When people first learn to play bridge all I keep hearing them say is "I've got".
Their partner might have opened 2♣ the strongest bid in bridge and all I can hear the partner say is I've 'ONLY" got 12 points. If the partner were to alter this to "We've got 34+ points of the 40 available points" then the partner will no longer be saying "I've only got".
The bidding in bridge is a LANGUAGE and as with all languages it needs to be a shared experience and you really do not want to have a conversation on your own. Much better for somebody to listen to you and for you to listen to the others around the bridge table.
As the song says "Let's start at the very beginning a very good way to start when you play bridge it begins with "I Like Spades or I Like Hearts or I like Diamonds or I Like Clubs, can we locate a common denominator"
