In our recent first round Crockfords Match 2009 my esteemed partner, Ned Paul, picked up that the lead was either made from top of a doubleton or MUD. With this in mind he decided that Right hand Opponent was going to be the danger man in Clubs.

He therefore held up the first trick and won the second trick with dummy’s King. He then established the  Diamond suit  losing dummy’s Ace to East who played another club which he won. He now entered dummy and advanced the Heart Ten “finessing into the safe hand” West won and was unable to continue Clubs and exited with a Spade duly taken by the Ace. With no entry back to hand  it was now a matter of  overtaking the Heart King and claiming his contract by way of 1 Spade, 4 Hearts, 3 Diamonds and 2 clubs
