After winning the first trick you must work out that partner has led second highest from a bad suit and that it is a pointless exercise to continue playing Spades. Having analysed the lead what suit to switch to ? With no future in either Major (dummy’s long suit is Hearts) and no future in Diamonds a Club is called for. It is also called for as its your good suit. So you switch to the ª5 and now the defenders are in control. If declarer guesses wrong as is likely West wins the Club Queen and fires one back and now declarer will be hard pressed to make more than 4 or 5 tricks
